Work has continued over the past several months to further develop and disseminate specialized rehab surveys, the findings of which will be used as a key input into the development of a hub-and-spoke model.

Specialized rehab programs are currently rating themselves against key criteria outlined in the RCA’s Specialized Rehabilitation: Guidance for Ontario Health Teams, while the RCA’s recent work has focussed on amputee, pulmonary, stroke and acquired brain injury (ABI) rehab populations:

  • An amputee rehab survey was piloted and broadly disseminated in the early summer, followed by a pulmonary survey later in the season.
  • A working group will be convened this fall to review the content of an ABI rehab survey prior to its dissemination later this year.
  • A stroke rehab survey has been developed with input from regional stroke coordinators and will be reviewed by additional stroke partners before its fall release. The RCA’s Stroke Rehab Task Group has also provided guidance and is helping determine how survey findings, along with other factors, will support the creation of specialized rehab hubs and spokes. Given CorHealth’s recent in-depth work on community stroke rehab, the RCA survey will focus solely on inpatient stroke rehab.
