The RCA and Ontario Hospital Association (OHA) held a webinar on Thursday, July 10 on how inpatient rehabilitation and complex continuing care (CCC) beds are funded in Ontario hospitals.

Building on the 2023 funding primer webinar, this session offered an updated overview of Ontario’s hospital funding mechanisms, with a focus on the Growth and Efficiency Model (GEM). Participants gained insights into how GEM allocates funding to inpatient rehab and CCC beds, recent updates to the rehab unit cost model, and ways to evaluate expected versus actual costs and allocations. The session also provided a high-level explanation of using case mix and resource intensity weights to understand patient populations and their impact on funding.
