The RCA has updated its Total Joint Replacement (TJR) Best Practice Framework and accompanying Quick Reference Guide to reflect the growing shift toward same-day hospital discharge following joint replacement surgery.

As same-day discharge becomes significantly more common across Ontario, there is a pressing need to ensure rehabilitative care practices continue to reflect current evidence. The updated documents incorporate the latest literature on rehabilitation following same-day discharge, helping providers deliver timely, appropriate, and effective care in both hospital and community settings.

To build on this work, the RCA will convene a new working group next month to further update the TJR Best Practice Framework, with a particular focus on rehab utilization in outpatient community clinics and in-home care. This next phase will be informed by a comprehensive literature review to ensure recommendations align with emerging best practices and system needs.
